An end of life midwife, also known as an end-of-life doula, a death doula, or transition guide, is a non-medical professional trained to provide holistic support to individuals and their families during the final phase of life. The role of an end of life midwife includes emotional, spiritual, and practical support, ensuring that the dying process is as peaceful and meaningful as possible for both the individual and their loved ones.
End of Life Midwife/death doula provides non-medical, holistic support throughout the end-of-life process. Our role includes offering emotional and spiritual care, facilitating meaningful conversations, guiding families through the dying process, and assisting with legacy projects and rituals. Death doulas focus on creating peace, acceptance, and a personalized experience for the dying individual and their loved ones.
Hospice Care:
Hospice care is a medical service that provides comprehensive care to those with a terminal illness. It involves a team of healthcare professionals who manage pain and symptoms, offer medical support, and provide emotional and spiritual counseling. Hospice care aims to ensure a dignified and comfortable end-of-life experience, typically provided in the patient’s home or a hospice facility.
End of Life Midwife/ death doula and hospice care providers can collaborate to offer a full spectrum of support. While the hospice team addresses medical needs, the death doula focuses on emotional, spiritual, and practical aspects:
In person services are available in the counties of San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin. Travel outside of this immediate service area can be discussed. I am grateful to be connected with other end of life doulas and may be able to assist with a referral. Additionally, I do offer virtual appointments.
End of Life Midwives/Death Doulas do not offer any medical services. However, I can help support you in understanding the medications by reinforcing education and instructions provided by your medical care team.
